Ask us on an E-date!

In Uncategorized on June 29, 2010 at 8:28 pm

In the video we posted for you all last week, we learned that 1 in 5 relationships these days start from the internet!! weird. In the spirit of us trying all social media sites available to us, we are going to play around with this statistic.  We are making an account on E-harmony (on our own time!) to see just how these websites work.  We’re not promising on going on any dates but we are going to see what this online dating community has to offer us.  Who knows? Maybe matchmaking on the internet is more fruitful than matchmaking in reality.

Adventures Outside!

In Uncategorized on June 25, 2010 at 1:07 pm

This week we have been venturing outside the office! We’re too worn out to really explain this but here are a few snippets from our days:

-walking into a front office with a man sitting in his whitey-tighties watching the World Cup  (completely unphased by our presence)

-“I’m already on the Google” – owner’s response to our information about an upcoming workshop

-entering a rather shabby building only to find a huge metal detector and security guard unhappy to see us.

We’ll see what today brings…have a good weekend folks!

Tweet Trouble

In Uncategorized on June 25, 2010 at 1:04 pm

Kelly’s brilliant friend Briana sent her yet another article for the blog the other day.  Recently, Twitter has gotten in trouble for not protecting users’ private information and not established enoughs security to stop hackers from accessing accounts.  President Obama and Fox News were hacked sending false tweets out to thousands of Twitter users.  This raises questions on how secure social media truly is.

With less and less people actually watching the news on TV and reading newspapers, social media is becoming such a large presence in sharing current information that it is scary to think how quickly false headlines can spread if accounts get hacked.  Can you imagine the chaos and terror that could result from messages that could be sent out from President Obama?  All social media sites should be held to strict laws and punishment, not only for the safety of individual people but for everyone as a whole.

LinkedIn or Linked-Out

In Uncategorized on June 22, 2010 at 8:10 pm

While spending some time viewing social media sites over the past couple of days, we learned that 90% of businesses are now recruiting off of LinkedIn!  We had no idea how severely the job recruitment process had shifted and immediately made ourselves part of the LinkedIn community.  We found it very interesting that less than 20% of the graduating classes at both of our universities were present on LinkedIn.  Are people scared to embrace social media, think its silly, or simply just don’t know about it?  After viewing the video we posted in our last update, we know that they all better get with it or risk being Linked-Out. Crazy Social Media Facts!

In Uncategorized on June 17, 2010 at 8:11 pm

My incredibly smart and awesome friend Briana sent me this video today! It contains some of the coolest social media facts I have ever seen and really puts them in perspective for you.

I remember when I joined the social media world for the very first time.  My older sister was in college with a facebook and she made the mistake of one time telling me her facebook password.  Not realizing that I would never forget it  (still haven’t!), I logged onto her facebook like every day until one day it said you could invite high schools! I invited myself asap and I have loved social media since then.  I can’t believe how big it is now. Crazyyyy. watch the video. It’s awesome!

Mother may I take two baby steps?

Hello all of our thousands of visitors! (I’m kidding obviously- althought there were 16 of you today!)  It’s been a weird week for me so far sitting alone by the window without Shelby! So far this week, I’ve learned that it’s much easier to get things done when there are 2 heads instead of one! I was drafting a letter today and kept wishing that I had someone else to tell me how they thought a sentence started.  I actually contemplated bugging Shelby on vacation to read it for me…but I decided against that.

Life Without Shelby Day 2

In Uncategorized on June 14, 2010 at 8:47 pm

It’s amazing how much easier it is to focus on Mondays than on Fridays!  Today, I got into the office around 8:30 and went to my usual seat (it’s nice because currently Shelby and I have window desks).  Shelby and I have had some computer issues the past few days so I spent most of my morning catching up on sending things out before taking a break for my taco salad (yum!) for lunch.  I returned this afternoon to work on some more stuff and review a website that Blue Corona is getting ready to launch!  I also had time to work on a manual that Shelby and I have started on.  We have been creating a helpful manual of all the work we do so that future interns will be able to catch up quickly!  That’s all for today (I’m less creative solo)

On a personal note, if you like country music like I do, check out Walker Hayes.

Life Without Shelby

In Uncategorized on June 11, 2010 at 8:52 pm

Hello everyone! Shelby and I apologize for not updating this blog since Tuesday but we are keeping our goal of 3 posts a week!  Sadly, Shelby has returned to her home state for her sister’s deb party and I, Kelly, will be lonely without her all week.  I will continue to update the blog by myself for the next week unless Shelby gets inspired on vacation and decides to post.

Today, being my first day without Shelby here, was an interesting adjustment.  We are usually side by side all day working on certain projects together so it was strange to be working on them alone.  By the general set-up of the workplace, Shelby and I are fairly isolated from the rest of the workers here.  This thought of the way the work place was set up reminded me of a post that I wrote for a blog I worked on all semester at school.  Read the rest of this entry »

On our way to a door…

In Uncategorized on June 8, 2010 at 9:33 pm

Today, we decided that the true measure of whether you have become valuable to a company is when you are trusted with an office with a door.  We are definetly not worthy of doors anytime soon but we did have quite a successful day!  We saw that various potential clients viewed the information we sent to them, with one calling and many sending in inquiries! We’re looking forward to seeing who views the info tomorrow!

mundane mondays

We are having a very difficult time thinking of what to write about today so we will just update you on what we have been doing at work recently.  This morning, we found national associations for home-service industries for Blue Corona to attend some trade shows in the fall! Did you know there is an International Surface Fabricators Association?  We didn’t either.

Last week we worked on articles for a newsletter that will hopefully be distributed towards the end of the summer/early fall.  Newsletter style writing is a skill we are still working on mastering.  It’s hard to capture attention and still deliver accurate and clear information.
